Cockroach Exterminator in Vallejo, CA
One roach on the kitchen floor at night usually means dozens behind the stove. Ferryline Pest Control finds where the cockroaches are living, treats the source and closes the gaps they use, so you stop seeing them for good.

Cockroach control that starts with the right roach
Calling a cockroach exterminator in Vallejo is not the same job every time. A German cockroach problem in an apartment kitchen on Sonoma Boulevard and an American cockroach coming out of a floor drain in a downtown basement need completely different treatment. Spray the wrong spot and the roaches just move.
That is why we start every roach call the same way: we figure out which cockroach you have, where it is breeding and how it is getting in. Then we treat that, not the whole house with a fog that sends them into your walls.
Call (707) 000-0000, tell us what the roach looks like and where you saw it, and we will set a time.
Which cockroach do you have?
Four kinds of cockroaches show up in Vallejo homes. Here is how to tell them apart.
| Roach | Size and look | Where you see it in Vallejo | What it means |
|---|---|---|---|
| German cockroach | About 1/2 inch, light brown, two dark stripes behind the head | Kitchens and bathrooms, inside cabinets, behind the fridge and stove, in apartments with shared walls | It is breeding inside your home. This one needs treatment fast. |
| American cockroach | Up to 1.5 inches, reddish brown, flies short distances | Basements, floor drains, garages, crawl spaces, near storm drains and sewer lines | It is coming in from outside or from the sewer. Fix the entry and the drain. |
| Oriental cockroach | About 1 inch, shiny black, slow | Damp crawl spaces, under porches, around older foundations | Moisture problem near or under the house. |
| Turkestan cockroach | Males tan with pale wing edges, females dark | Water meter boxes, irrigation valves, cracks in patios and block walls | Mostly an outdoor roach that wanders in on warm nights. |
If you are not sure, take a photo, even a blurry one, and describe it when you call. Most of the time we can tell you which roach it is before we arrive.
German cockroaches: the indoor problem
German cockroaches are the roach that moves in and stays. One female carries an egg case with 30 to 40 eggs, and the young are adults in a couple of months. A small problem becomes a big one in a single season.
They hitch rides into homes in grocery bags, used appliances, furniture and moving boxes, and they travel between apartment units through plumbing and electrical gaps. In Vallejo’s older apartment buildings and duplexes, treating one unit while the unit next door still has roaches is the most common reason German cockroach control fails.
Signs of German cockroaches:
– Roaches running when you turn on the kitchen light at night
– Black pepper-like droppings in cabinet corners, drawers and on top of the fridge
– Small brown egg cases behind appliances and under sinks
– A musty, oily smell in heavy infestations
– Seeing roaches during the day, which usually means there are too many to hide
American cockroaches: the drain and sewer roach
The big reddish roach you see in a garage or bathroom is usually an American cockroach. They live in sewer lines, storm drains, utility vaults and damp basements, and they come up through floor drains, dry P-traps and gaps around pipes.
They are a common sight in older parts of town near the waterfront and downtown, where homes sit close to older sewer lines and many houses have basements or deep crawl spaces. On warm summer nights they also come in under doors and through foundation vents.
For American cockroaches, sealing and drain work does as much as any product. A floor drain that has dried out is an open door.
How we get rid of cockroaches
Sprays alone do not get rid of roaches. They kill the ones they touch and scatter the rest. Our cockroach control is built around what actually works.
- Inspection. We check the kitchen, bathrooms, laundry, garage and crawl space with a flashlight, look for droppings and egg cases, and find where the roaches are living. For apartments, we ask about neighboring units.
- Identification. German, American, Oriental or Turkestan. The treatment plan depends on it.
- Gel baits in the hiding spots. Small bait placements go into hinges, cracks and gaps where roaches live, not on counters where you prep food. Roaches eat the bait, go back to hiding and pass it to others.
- Insect growth regulators (IGRs). These stop young roaches from becoming breeding adults. This is what ends a German cockroach problem instead of just thinning it out.
- Entry and drain work. We point out and seal gaps around pipes, under sinks and behind appliances, and tell you which drains need water or a cover.
- Outdoor treatment where needed. For American, Oriental and Turkestan roaches, we treat around the foundation, utility boxes and entry points.
- Follow-up visit. Roach eggs hatch after the first treatment. We come back, check the baits and treat again where needed.
You will hear from us what products we are using and where, and how to keep kids and pets away from treated areas while they dry.
What you can do today
These steps make any cockroach treatment work faster. Most cost nothing.
- Take away water first. Fix dripping faucets and leaks under sinks. Roaches can live a long time without food but not without water.
- Clean behind and under the stove and fridge. Grease and crumbs there feed a whole colony.
- Store food in sealed containers, including pet food. Do not leave pet bowls out overnight.
- Run water in floor drains, tubs and sinks you rarely use so the trap stays full and blocks sewer roaches.
- Cut cardboard clutter. Roaches love the glue and the gaps in cardboard boxes, especially in garages.
- Skip the foggers. Bug bombs push German cockroaches deeper into walls and into neighboring units, which makes the real treatment harder.
Roaches in Vallejo apartments and rentals
A lot of the cockroach calls in Vallejo come from apartments, duplexes and rental homes. A few things matter here.
Tenants: In California, landlords are generally responsible for keeping a rental free of cockroach infestations that the tenant did not cause. Tell your landlord or property manager in writing as soon as you see roaches, with dates and photos.
Landlords and property managers: German cockroaches spread unit to unit. Treating only the unit that complained usually means another call in a month. We can inspect neighboring units and plan treatment for the building, and we write up what we found and what we did for your records.
When roaches show up with other pests
Cockroaches often point to a bigger moisture or access problem. The same gaps under a sink that let roaches in can let mice in, and the crawl space moisture that feeds Oriental cockroaches also attracts silverfish and other household bugs.
- Seeing droppings that are bigger than pepper? Read about rodent control in Vallejo.
- Small bugs in a line on the counter instead? That is probably ants. See ant control in Vallejo.
- Tiny bugs you cannot name in bathrooms or closets? See common household bugs in Vallejo.
- Bites at night and rust spots on sheets? That is not roaches. See bed bug treatment in Vallejo.
What does a cockroach exterminator cost in Vallejo?
The price depends on which cockroach you have, how many rooms are involved, whether it is a house or a unit in a larger building, and how many follow-up visits are needed. An outdoor American cockroach problem is usually a smaller job than an established German cockroach infestation in an apartment kitchen.
We inspect first and give you a clear price before we start. For what goes into pest control pricing in general, see our Vallejo pest control cost guide.
Cockroach control in Vallejo: common questions
What attracts cockroaches to a house?
Water, food and shelter. Leaky pipes, grease behind the stove, pet food left out, cardboard clutter and gaps around plumbing all help roaches. German cockroaches are usually carried in, while American cockroaches come up from drains and sewer lines.
Does one cockroach mean an infestation?
Not always. One large American cockroach in the garage after a warm night may have wandered in from outside. One small German cockroach in the kitchen is different: they breed indoors, so where there is one there are usually more. Check under the sink and behind the fridge for droppings and egg cases.
How long does it take to get rid of German cockroaches?
Most homes see a big drop within one to two weeks of treatment. Getting to zero usually takes a follow-up visit, because eggs hatch after the first treatment. Heavy infestations and apartment buildings can take longer, especially if neighboring units are not treated.
Why do I still see roaches after the exterminator came?
For the first week or two, seeing roaches is normal and often a good sign: baits draw them out of hiding before they die. If you still see live young roaches after a few weeks, call us back so we can check the baits and the hiding spots we may not have reached.
Are cockroaches dangerous?
Cockroaches can carry bacteria onto food and prep surfaces, and their droppings and shed skins are a known trigger for asthma and allergies, especially in children. That is reason enough not to wait.
Do bug bombs work on cockroaches?
Not well. Foggers rarely reach where German cockroaches hide, and they can spread them into walls and neighboring units. Targeted baits and growth regulators work better.
Can roaches come up through the drain?
Yes. American cockroaches live in sewer lines and come up through floor drains, shower drains and dry traps. Keep traps full of water, use drain covers on floor drains and seal gaps around pipes.
Do I need to leave the house during cockroach treatment?
For most baiting treatments, no. We tell you which areas we treated and how long to keep kids and pets away from them. If we use any spray, we will tell you how long to stay out of those rooms.
How to pick a cockroach exterminator
Whoever you call, ask these questions:
- Will you inspect before giving me a price?
- Which cockroach do I have, and how will that change the treatment?
- Are follow-up visits included?
- What is your California Structural Pest Control Board license number? (You can check it on the board’s license lookup.)
For a full checklist, see how to choose a pest control company. Before your visit, our prep guide covers what to clear out and what to expect after.
